Apply for a Master's course
To start your application for Master's study at Imperial, please use our online application system.
To apply for a postgraduate taught course (MSc, MRes, MPH, PG Cert, PG Dip and MBA), you must apply online.
Once you have created an online account, you can search for the course you want to apply for and start your application.
You may only be considered for a maximum of two programmes per admissions cycle.
If you are applying to the Business School, your first and second choice programmes must both be the same type of qualification (i.e. both MSc, both MBA or both MRes).
We process your application for your first-choice course first; we will only process your second-choice if your first choice is unsuccessful.
Some courses may not be available as a second choice and so will not appear in the second-choice list.
When to apply
Imperial College Business School operates a number of fixed application deadlines throughout the year for its courses.
All other postgraduate courses remain open until they are full, though popular courses tend to close early, sometimes before Christmas. You should apply for these courses early to avoid disappointment.
As a guide, visa nationals (overseas applicants) should should aim to apply by no later than the 30 June. UK and non-visa nationals should apply by 1 August to ensure your application can be processed in time for your chosen year of entry.
If you are planning to apply for College funding, you need to be aware of the various closing dates for College awards. Use our scholarships search tool to search for scholarships you may be eligible for.
To show how you qualify for the course(s) you are applying for, you will need to provide information about the higher qualifications you have achieved or which you’re currently studying.
All Imperial applicants must also show that they have a sufficiently good level of written and spoken English to meet the demands of our challenging academic environment. Find out more about our English language requirements for postgraduate study.
We can process your application more quickly if you upload scanned copies of the academic transcripts and certificates for the higher education qualifications you already hold when you apply.
If you receive an offer we may ask you to provide evidence of your previous qualifications as part of the conditions of your offer. Where this applies, you must send the original physical documents by post.
You will need to provide the names of two people who can provide an academic reference in support of your application. An academic reference could be from, for example
- Your personal tutor
- Your thesis supervisor
- Your line manager in a research group
One academic and one relevant professional reference may be acceptable – contact the relevant Admissions team for confirmation before you apply.
For the Imperial College Business School, an application fee is applied to some courses.
For 2020-21 entry, this is £125 for MBA applications and £80 for MSc programmes. Find out more about this application fee.
There is no application processing fee for any other postgraduate courses. This includes the Business School's Doctoral programme.
If your application is successful and we make you an offer, you may need to pay a deposit. This deposit may be part of your offer conditions. This amount will be deducted from your tuition fees.
